Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon in South Africa’s Top 10
9 June 2016
The Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2016 was recently announced and we’re happy to see the Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 featuring in the Top 10 placements with 91 point awarded to this vintage.
According to wine judge Christian Eedes:
In the end, the wines that rated best displayed depth of flavour but not at the expense of balance and ended dry. Austerity might be out of fashion with the market at large but not with this panel. Cabernet is intended to be aged and a certain firmness in youth is precisely what is required if that is to be so.
The 2012 vintage was matured for 18 months in French oak, (45% new) and was described by the judges as showing “Cassis, a hint of mint plus chocolate and a little earthiness. Rich and full on the palate with fresh acidity and firm but fine tannins, the finish long and savoury.”
